Sizemore regrets photo scandal

February 4, 2010 by Theresa
Category:Articles and Interviews

CLEVELAND — Fully clothed, Grady Sizemore faced his public with nothing to hide.

Stung by having semi-nude photos of him posted on the Internet, Cleveland’s popular center fielder said he never intended for the photos, which Sizemore maintains were stolen from an e-mail account, to be viewed publicly and that he regrets the embarrassment their exposure has caused.

“It’s tough,” he said. “This is a situation where it’s a private matter and personal photos were stolen illegally. I’ve always tried to represent myself and the Cleveland organization as best as possible and to put everybody through this is a terrible feeling and I apologize to everybody.”

In November, the photos — one of Sizemore standing nearly naked in front of a bathroom mirror — appeared online. Sizemore, who said he took the photos for his girlfriend, contacted Major League Baseball officials to stop them from spreading to Web sites.

GradySizemore.org Special Message

January 14, 2010 by Theresa
Category:Uncategorized

As many of you have heard and viewed in the news, Haiti was devastated do to an earthquake. I have donated money to Red Cross and want to post info on the site to spread the word that Haiti is need of great help from all over the world. I checked news reports this morning and many countries including the US are giving aid to them.

Here is a CNN article with suggestions on verified donation sources:
Money needed most in Haiti earthquake relief efforts

(CNN) — The next question on many people’s minds after learning about the earthquake devastation in Haiti has been: How can I help? Most organizations are asking for monetary donations. They are not seeking material items, like clothes or food, or volunteers at this time.

These agencies have set up phone lines, online donation pages and even texting for individuals to contribute to their relief efforts. We’ve compiled a list of a few organizations who are in Haiti helping those in need.

These resources include the highest-rated charities by CharityNavigator.org, which is an independent, nonprofit organization that evaluates charity groups based on effectiveness and financial stability. These sites are vetted by CNN journalists for credibility.

For additional resources, go to Impact Your World

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross’ primary focus during the initial response of an emergency is feeding, sheltering and supplying any other basic needs. To donate: Go to RedCross.org, hit donate now button at top and then International Response Fund. You also can text “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 to the International Response Fund. The money will go directly to relief efforts in Haiti. Or call 1-800-Red-Cross.

AmeriCares

This nonprofit disaster relief organization delivers medicine, medical supplies and aid to people in crisis around the world. To donate, call 1-800-486-HELP or go to AmeriCares.org. Donations will go toward medicine and medical supplies and for expenses for providing that medical aid.

Care

This humanitarian organization’s main focus is to fight global poverty, specifically by empowering marginalized women and girls. To donate to the Haiti relief fund effort, go to Care.org or call 1-800-521-CARE. Money will go toward food, water and sanitation, shelter and emergency health response.

Direct Relief International

Direct Relief provides medical attention to those in need on an ongoing basis and in emergencies. Monetary donations go toward medical aid, supplies and equipment in Haiti. To donate, go to directrelief.org or call 805-964-4767 and 800-676-1638, or go through Google Checkout.

MLB.com’s Castrovince answers your Tribe questions – Grady

January 5, 2010 by Theresa
Category:Articles and Interviews, Featured

Assuming that he returns in good health and has a productive spring camp, what is the likelihood the Tribe will trade Grady Sizemore by the end of Spring Training or by the Trade Deadline?
– John F., no location given

I wouldn’t initiate the Sizemore swap watch just yet, John. While Grady’s trade value is inherently high, it is not quite as high as it might usually be, as he’s coming off an injury-plagued ‘09 in which his numbers took a hit. Furthermore, the Tribe has him locked up through 2012, so the incentive to deal him and his affordable contract (he’ll make $5.6 million this year and $7.5 million in 2011, with a club option in ‘12 worth as much as $10.5 million) just isn’t there at present.

But beginning next year, multiple factors — most notably Sizemore’s performance, the team’s performance and the development of Michael Brantley — will coalesce to force the Tribe to determine whether Sizemore is available to other clubs. And by midseason 2012, at the absolute latest, the Indians will have to decide if they want to take advantage of Sizemore’s trade value, because, as I’ve written several times before, it’s difficult to imagine him signing his next multiyear deal here.

Inbox: Does Acta favor a stable lineup?

December 16, 2009 by Theresa
Category:Uncategorized

Has Acta given any indication on where he thinks Sizemore fits in the lineup?
– Kevin H., Westminster, Md.

Unless something drastic changes, Sizemore will be leading off in Acta’s Opening Day lineup. Brantley really sparked the top of the lineup after his September promotion to the big leagues, reaching base safely in 25 of 28 games, stealing a few bags and coming up with some big hits. He gave the Indians every reason to believe he can one day fill that leadoff role full-time, perhaps by the end of the 2010 season.

But for now, with Brantley likely to go through some inevitable rookie-year adjustments, Acta feels it’s best to put him in a low-pressure spot at the outset.

There is a forum discussion here – Do you think Grady should stay in the lead-off position or should be moved lower in the order?

Washington: Best athletes from the last decade

Roy, Sizemore and Locker among Evergreen State standouts in the past 10 years.

3. Grady Sizemore (Cascade, 2000): Sizemore was a three-sport star at the Everett school. He was the Bruins’ career rushing leader when he graduated with 3,081 yards and he signed to play football at Washington. But he opted for baseball when the Montreal Expos took him in the third round of the 2000 draft. The Cleveland Indians acquired him in a trade in 2002, and he’s been a star. He’s made All-Star teams, competed in Home Run Derbies and hit .275 with 129 homers.
