Everywhere a sign: Indians centerfielder Grady Sizemore seemed genuinely thrilled to get Tess Sito’s autograph. They signed each other’s programs during cocktail hour. Sito, now at Cleveland State, was up for the High School Athlete of the Year award for her four-year dominance on the mound for the Elyria softball team.

What a game yesterday for Grady!

Indians at the plate: The Indians’ bats unloaded on Aaron Poreda and Jackson Quezeda in the bottom of the fourth, scoring nine runs on six hits with four walks. No less than 14 men came to the plate. The big blow came on Grady Sizemore’s grand slam to right off Quezeda. Every member of the Indians’ lineup scored a run in the inning.

With three on and no out, Grady Sizemore would hit a grand slam home run to add to the numerous runs in that inning. Although it was the only homer in the game, there were five more runs that would be put on the board by the Indians in that inning. With a solid lead, the Padres would only be able to drive in four more runs as the Indians win the game by a score of ten to five.

I had to defend Grady Sizemore
Now, to be fair, once we actually cracked open the outfielder ranks, we quickly lifted Sizemore much higher than that initial ranking. Nevertheless, I still found myself numbering among those who wanted him included among our top 10 outfielders, and indeed, he wound up No. 8. He also wound up as our No. 27 player overall, sandwiched byZack Greinke above and Jimmy Rollins below. And when the smoke had cleared after the Sizemore debate, I have to say: I’m pretty happy with that ranking.

Sizemore is now 27 years old and realizes his role on the team is changing. He will now be expected to become more of a vocal leader for some of the younger players in the clubhouse. Don’t expect Grady to give any rah-rah pep talks but, he remembers as a young player in AAA talking to Russell Branyan about what it takes to play in the big leagues. In an ironic twist of fate the two are teammates again now and Sizemore is excited about the prospect of having Branyan’s big bat in the line-up.

Sizemore regrets photo scandal

CLEVELAND — Fully clothed, Grady Sizemore faced his public with nothing to hide.
Stung by having semi-nude photos of him posted on the Internet, Cleveland’s popular center fielder said he never intended for the photos, which Sizemore maintains were stolen from an e-mail account, to be viewed publicly and that he regrets the embarrassment their exposure has caused.
“It’s tough,” he said. “This is a situation where it’s a private matter and personal photos were stolen illegally. I’ve always tried to represent myself and the Cleveland organization as best as possible and to put everybody through this is a terrible feeling and I apologize to everybody.”
In November, the photos — one of Sizemore standing nearly naked in front of a bathroom mirror — appeared online. Sizemore, who said he took the photos for his girlfriend, contacted Major League Baseball officials to stop them from spreading to Web sites.
